White Horse Shrine (Day 9)

I had what was considered a late start in Japan.  I woke up at around 9 ate breakfast, and figured out what to do.  The younger host brother was at club practice, but the older one was home, so we decided to go out.  First we biked to the ocean nearby.  It was very nice.

Then we went to "Susa Jinjya", Susa shrine.  On the way to the ocean we passed by this shrine, and it had a white horse at the top of the steps.  I saw this shrine once when we were on the way to the "Mikan Kaidou", orange ocean road.  Nobody believed me that I saw a shrine with a white horse at the top of the steps.  Now I can prove that it was actually there and I wasn't lying.  It is a large shrine that was built around the year 713.  The original location was recently discovered at the summit of the mountain.  The shrine has horse statues and deer statues.  Shunsuke and I then went up a path that led to the original part part of Susa Jinjya.  It was up a mountain, and it was a very treacherous path to get there.  We went straight past it at first.  We wandered in the deep woods for about 30 minutes, and then decided to head back.  On the way back though we noticed a rock formation that looked like to one on the picture.  It was the original location.  We headed down, and headed home afterwards.  Although it was a hard hike it was worth it to reach the top of the mountain.  Most people do not go on this path and it is pretty unknown.
