Today was the first day of the Igo tournament. To get to the tournament I had to take a train from Minoshima station. However on my way there I crashed my bike into a pole straight on, and broke my grandma's spare bike. I had to call my host mother to drive me to Minoshima. I'm not exactly sure how I crashed into the pole, but I wasn't injured so that was good. At the station a teacher was waiting there to get on the train with me. Ounishi was already on the train from Yuasa station and we were going to meet him on the train. We took the train to Miyama station which is one station before Wakayama city. It is basically in Wakayama city. The tournament was being held in a meeting room. A school called Kouyo was setting up the boards and clocks. Some school aside from Minoshima that were there was Taikyu, Ichiko, Toin, Kouyo, and Arida Chuou. There was an A, B, and C class tournament. Ounishi was competing in the B class and I was competing in the C class because I have only been playing for about 2 weeks. The C class played on a 13x13 board as opposed to the 19x19 traditional grid. We had 20 minutes of thinking time each. This may sound like a lot, but it goes by pretty fast, and until I got used to it I was getting awfully close to losing by time. I lost my first two games pretty handily against a boy from Kouyo and a girl from Ichiko. Then I won my first game against a boy from Arida Chuou. I was very surprised to win because I was a complete beginner. By the end of the day I went 3-3 which I think is pretty good for someone that has just started. Tomorrow I think I have 4 or 5 matches left.
After the tournament I went back to Miyahara station. My grandma picked me up because both my host mother and father had work. At her house Ueda san came over with her granddaughter from Florida. Then I went back to my host family's house, and fell asleep from exhaustion.
