Yakiniku (Day 41)

Today after Igo I had yakiniku with my host family, my old baseball coach, and my grandma.  By the time I got back at around 6 my baseball coach was there and they had already gotten started.  We talked about many things. Stories in rural Japan are always fun to here because they usually get exaggerated and are not stories that I would here in the US.  They are mostly about animals and gossip about the town.  I thought that there was a "zashiki-warashi".  Zashiki-warashi is a type of ghost that is supposed to live in a closet.  It is a good ghost, and is supposed to bring good fortune.  It is said to be a zashiki-warashi when you miscount the number of people many times.  Today I had to get a head count for the manjyu and tea, and I kept counting the number of people differently.  I kept counting numbers between 7-9.  Hopefully it brings me good luck.  We completely lost track of time and finished at around 11.  I walked my grandma back to her car, and had to walk back alone.  I thought that I was going to see a ghost or something because there are very few streetlights, so it was very dark.
