This morning I went to table tennis club until the afternoon. It was very hot today in the gym, so we had an ice cream afterwards. I came home, and had no plans for the afternoon. Ritsuki was at his friend's house and Tsubasa was taking a "moshi" test. My host dad and grandfather decided to go fishing with me. We went to a different beach in Hatsushima. There was less fish, but it was a larger beach and it was good to go somewhere different for a change. We caught lots of saba and aji. When we got back I gutted the fish with my host dad and grandmother.
Before dinner Tsuabasa and my host father went to the Yuusuzumikai for a little bit. This is an event held for a Japanese holiday called Tanabata. There is a very famous story to Tanabata. It is about Hikoboshi and Orihime. Hikoboshi and Orihime were in love. They were too madly in love that they forgot to do their work. Hikoboshi stopped taking care of his cattle and Orihime stopped making "hata" (traditional Japanese cloth). Then god got mad, so he put a river between them that they could not cross. He told them that if they work hard for one year that they could meet on July 7th. However they cannot meet if it is raining, so Japanese people hope that it is sunny. This is actually the story of the stars Altair (Hikoboshi), Vega (Orihime), and the Milky Way is the river.
The Yuusuzumikai is an event that is held at the "hoikusho" (preschool) every year. The preschoolers dance an ondo, there are "yomise" (night stores), and small "hanabi" (fireworks). I was only there for the beginning because dinner was soon. I saw Yoshihiko and many of my relatives. I also saw Ueda san and her son's wife from a distance because they were busy. Then I went home to eat dinner. My host mother made the fish into "nanbanzuke" which is when you fry the fish then put it in vinegar with vegetables. After dinner we watched a movie. Also Ritsuki has a strange talent of flicking coins with cards. My host brothers are both sleeping in my room tonight. Hopefully I can wake up tomorrow morning.
